The King called all of his counselors together for a meeting. He addressed them: “I want you to research and consult the wisest and most learned in the land. Follow every lead and leave no stone unturned. I want you to find the one principle that will get me through all situations in this life, forever reminding me all things here are temporal. Whether I am revered or reviled, gloating or anxious or sad, bring to me the idea that will assure my wisdom and greatness as King, that I might meditate on things eternal.”
The counselors roamed and investigated and questioned people near and far, listening to stories, fables and oral histories. They studied and read and analyzed all relevant writings new and old. They then carefully compiled, compared, and consolidated these volumes of proverbs, maxims, and concepts.
At last they had the words for which the king had been waiting. A great ceremony was planned and with a grand flourish the king unrolled the scroll and read aloud: “This Too Shall Pass”.
